Eyelash extensions 101

 

What are eyelash extensions? Eyelash extensions are the newest advancement in eyelash trends. Lash extensions are available in three different forms, synthetic, silk and mink which are semi permanently adhered to your natural lashes. Unlike fake eyelashes, which are strips of lashes adhered to your eyelid, extensions are attached to individual natural lashes to create a longer, fuller lash line. They are simply an extension of what already exists, so extensions look natural and customized to you.

Variety Just like your hair, eyelashes differ in shades and thicknesses. Depending on how you want the lash extensions to appear on your natural lashes, there will be an extension type that suits your needs. for those that want your lashes to look naturally enhanced, your lash artist may choose to use go with the classic set. For more voluminous and eye catching lashes, you may want to experiment with the volume lashes also known as 3d lashes.  

How long is the lash application? The application process for a full set of lash extensions takes about 1.5 - 2 hours.  You will lay comfortably on a facial table with your eyes closed.

How long do the extensions last?  When applied by a professional, eyelash extensions will last the length of the natural growth cycle of your eyelashes, usually between 6 and 8 weeks. Depending on your activity and day-to-day routine, refills should only be required every 2 to 3 weeks.

How can I prepare my appointment? You should thoroughly clean your lashes with a mild cleanser. Do not use oily makeup remover to clean your lashes prior to the application. 

How do I take care of my eyelash extensions?

  • Do not get lashes wet for the first 24 hours
  • Avoid hot steam or sauna
  • For longer lasting lashes, limit the use of running water directly on your lashes
  • Avoid rubbing your eyes excessively
  • Use water based eye makeup remover
  • Do not perm your lashes
  • Do not use a mechanical eyelash curler
  • Do not pull on your lashes
  • Do not sleep on your face
